National Awards

The Johnston family was honored by the Sarah Barton Murphy Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution with this Historic Preservation Recognition Award for their collective work on the book, “The Shaping of Farmington, Missouri”.

Dr. Ryan Johnston was named the winner of the National Creative Writing competition for his entry, “The Old Family Farm”. This work was featured in Missouri Humanities (digitally) and on public display at the Farmington Library, during 2023’s “Country Days” celebration, shown below. The display allowed a public outlet for folks to share their own memories of the farm. A presentation on the content of the history book was given at the library during the exhibit’s opening weekend and a copy of “The shaping of Farmington, Missouri” was donated to the library’s genealogy room by the author.
